Lesson Plan: I Was Wondering About Leadership

Great Thinker's Challenge:

Think critically about the qualities that define a good leader, consider which of these qualities are important in different scenarios, and identify qualities of leadership in oneself. Select and apply qualities they feel are important to create a profile of a new leader for a local band of comic book heroes working to solve a problem in their community.

Learning Objectives:

  • (Social Studies) Investigate systems, features, and qualities of leadership.

  • (Literacy) Engage in appropriate listening and speaking behaviour in a small group context.

  • (Literacy) Gather and sort ideas and information for writing from a variety of sources.

  • (Literacy) Write short captions and text that demonstrate a clear opinion.

  • (Literacy) Use appropriate visual aids to support or enhance written material.

  • (Visual Arts) Use elements of design in art works to communicate ideas and messages.

  • (Social-Emotional Learning) Consider general characteristics of leadership and identify one’s own personal strengths and abilities in a context of leadership.

Materials/Preparation:

  • Small squares of paper, sticky notes, or index cards

  • Markers, pens, crayons

  • Poster paper past and present generations.

Grade Range: 2-5
