Lesson Plan: Homework About Humans
Great Thinker's Challenge:
Think critically about what it means to be “human” by investigating what makes us similar to or different from other animals. Roleplay as a cryptozoological creature (a Yeti) to research and ask questions about human physical, social, and behavioural characteristics. Use graphic organizers and a labelled diagram to “teach” an audience of other cryptozoological creatures (Yeti students) about the humans that live in their environment.
Learning Objectives:
(Health and Physical Education) Identify human body parts by name and describe ways in which humans use those body parts to move and interact with our environment.
(Science and Technology) Investigate similarities and differences in the characteristics of various animals.
(Science and Technology) Investigate the basic needs, characteristics, behaviour, and adaptations of a particular animal.
(Literacy) Use appropriate elements (e.g., graphics, legible printing, labelled diagram, captions, varied print size or colour for emphasis) in a published presentation.
(Literacy) Write clear, concise instructions, using appropriate language, tone and terminology.
