Lesson Plan: Crafting A Better World

Great Thinker's Challenge:

Take a critical, but optimistic look at ways that even young thinkers can contribute solutions to problems in their school, their community, and beyond. Craft works of art in a variety of media that express ideas for improvement, and share and explain them with peers.

Learning Objectives:

  • Use a variety of materials, tools, and techniques to create a work of visual art that communicates an idea. (Visual Art)

  • Identify and communicate ideas and emotions through a creative project. (Social-Emotional Learning)

  • Recognize that individual actions can contribute to the health, safety, and well-being of many. (Social-Emotional Learning)

  • Use descriptive vocabulary to explain work and its meaning to others. (Literacy)

  • Explore ideas like responsibility and active participation in one’s community. (Social Science)

Materials/Preparation:

  • Crafting A Better World Worksheet

  • Art supplies of your choice, including painting and drawing supplies, modelling clay, found objects, or digital cameras
