Lesson Plan: From Noise To Music
Great Thinker’s Challenge:
Collaborate to create a definition of music by comparing it to everyday sounds. Go on a treasure hunt for all kinds of sounds in the classroom. Explore the process by which we change noise into something creative and artistic, and appreciate that different types of music may appeal or not appeal to listeners.
Learning Objectives:
Identify and describe differences between noise and music using simple musical vocabulary. (Music)
Express personal responses to different types of sounds through writing, drawing, and discussion. (Music)
Compare and contrast different types of sounds (music and noise) using simple sentence frames. (Literacy)
Reflect on personal preferences for certain sounds while acknowledging that others may receive them in different ways. (Social-Emotional Learning)

Simple found object that can make a sound, like crumpled paper, a container of dried beans, or a paper tube
Musical instruments, toy or real (optional)
