Lesson Plan: Brave Thoughts

Great Thinker's Challenge:

Explore the role of courage in asking “big questions”. Research a great thinker who was willing to be brave, ask questions, and think carefully about possible answers, and whose ideas changed history.

Learning Objectives:

  • (Literacy) Use appropriate descriptive vocabulary to recount an event.

  • (Social-Emotional Learning) Evaluate possible outcomes in a given situation.

  • (Visual Art) Express thoughts and narrative through use of visual media.

  • (Social Studies) Examine the accomplishments and influence of a famous historical thinker.

Materials/Preparation:

  • Brave Thoughts worksheet

  • Print or internet resources about great historical thinkers

  • Art supplies

Grade Range: 2-5
