Lesson Plan: Something To Say

Great Thinker’s Challenge:

Investigate local habitats, plants, or animals that are endangered or have been singled out for protection by people or organizations in the community. Think critically about whether they should be protected, and research what can and should be done in protection efforts.

Learning Objectives:

  • (Science) Analyze the positive and negative impact of human interactions with natural habitats and communities.

  • (Science) Identify reasons for the depletion or extinction of a plant, animal natural habitat, and propose possible actions to prevent this from happening.

  • (Social Studies) Develop an awareness of resources, processes, and initiatives in the local community.

  • (Literacy) Determine the main idea of an informational text and identify supporting details.

  • (Literacy) Write an informative text to convey ideas and information clearly.

Materials/Preparation:

  • Something to Say! worksheet

  • Online or print resources about local conservation efforts

Grade Range: 2-5
