Lesson Plan: Connections

Great Thinker's Challenge:

Create a web of connections between humans and other creatures/elements in the natural world. Brainstorm, organize, and connect living and non-living things according to the way they interact and depend on each other. Create a visual representation of these connections and reflect on the experience.

Learning Objectives:

  • Science) Investigate ways in which plants and animals depend on features of their habitat to meet important needs.

  • (Science) Demonstrate an understanding of a community as a group of interacting species, sharing a common habitat.

  • (Science) Describe ways in which humans are dependent on natural habitats and communities.

Materials/Preparation:

  • Connections worksheet

  • Print and online resources about a particular type of habitat

  • String or yarn

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Poster paper or large construction paper

Grade Range: 2-5
