Great Thinker's Challenge:

Research what life was like for a woman of great power/influence who accomplished something unexpected in the time and place in which she lived. Make connections between the accomplishments of these great women and one's own personal goals.

Learning Objectives:

  • (Literacy) Read from and write about an informational text.

  • (Social Studies) Profile a prominent person and her accomplishments.

  • (Social Studies) Examine the impact of a local community leader.

  • (Visual Art) Represent a person using a visual medium.

Materials/Planning:

  • Powerful Women worksheet

  • Library/resource centre

  • Print and online resources

  • Art supplies

  • Adhesive putty, push pins or paper clips to attach leaves to the tree
