Lesson Plan: Great Thinkers

Great Thinker's Challenge:

Anyone can be a great thinker if he or she is willing to be brave, ask questions, and think carefully about possible answers. Create a “Great Thinker” super-hero persona around a personal strength that is shared with great thinkers in history.

Learning Objectives:

  • (Literacy) Make inferences about texts, using quotes from the texts as evidence.

  • (Literacy) Develop descriptive vocabulary word banks.

  • (Literacy) Connect ideas in a text with personal knowledge and experience.

  • (Visual Art) Create a two-dimensional visual representation of a concept or idea.

  • (Social-Emotional Learning) Identify, communicate, and express pride about one’s own strengths.

Materials/Preparation:

  • Sticky notes or poster paper and markers to document observations, vocabulary, and ideas

  • A Great Thinker worksheet

  • Pencil crayons (or other artist materials)

  • Name tags

Grade Range: 2-5
