Lesson Plan: Fact Or Fiction?

Great Thinker's Challenge:

Create objects and artifacts from a story in which the line between reality and imagination is blurred, and talk about what is real and what is not real. Discuss the importance of things that are real, and the importance of the imagination, by investigating the way a story character understands the world.

Learning Objectives:

  • (Literacy) Read for meaning and detail.

  • (Literacy) Identify and describe a situation from a fictional character’s perspective.

  • (Literacy) Create an argument with evidence.

  • (Visual Art) Create a two-dimensional drawing or three-dimensional model to represent an object from a story.

  • (Social-Emotional Learning) Understand the importance of creativity in everyday life.

Materials/Preparation:

  • Fact or Fiction worksheet

  • Storybook, movie, or TV show about reality and imagination

  • Art supplies (e.g., coloured pencils, markers, etc.)

Grade Range: 2-5
