Lesson Plan: Be Reasonable

Great Thinker’s Challenge:

Learn to present ideas and opinions in a way that others will understand and appreciate. Examine the right and wrong way to make an argument by identifying common mistakes in reasoning, and develop strategies to correct them.

Learning Objectives:

• (Character Development) Use critical thinking skills as a means to understand and improve one’s daily life. 

• (Character Development) Evaluate and appreciate a variety of points of view. 

• (Literacy) Compose an opinion and support it with reasons and information. 

• (Literacy) Write a set of instructions using appropriate vocabulary and language conventions. 

• (Visual Art) Use visual symbols to represent ideas. 

Materials/Preparation:

• Be Reasonable! worksheet

• List of common mistakes in logic, printed on small slips of paper, box or hat

• Chart paper, poster paper or bristol board, markers

Grade Range: 2-5
