Lesson Plan: I Was Wondering About Curiosity

Great Thinker's Challenge: 

Think critically about what it means to be “curious” and why it is, or is not an important thing to be. Complete a brainstorming and questioning activity to guide and practice curiosity about a personally meaningful topic. Set goals for future learning or achievement inspired by curiosity, and create a scrap book to track and document exploration. 

Learning Objectives:

  • (Literacy) Generate ideas about a potential topic by formulating and asking questions to identify prior knowledge, and information needs. 

  • (Literacy) Sort and classify ideas, and information for writing. 

  • (Social-Emotional Learning) Identify and communicate personal interests and motivations. 

  • (Social-Emotional Learning) Set goals for learning and achievement, based on personal interests. 

Materials/Preparation:

  • Poster paper 

  • Construction paper 

  • Old magazines, newspapers, or printed online resources 

  • String or ribbon 

  • A hole-punch 

  • Markers, pens, crayons 

Grade Range: 2-5
