5 Reasons Why We Love Making Kid Lit!

September is World Kid Lit Month, and we’d like to celebrate it with a love letter to our line of work. There are so many reasons to love creating all kinds of stories for young thinkers. Here are ours:

·      Kids are open to a variety of formats and media. They still love sitting down with the printed stuff, but they’re also happy to get their reading in through games, apps, and videos. We’re so happy to meet them where they think, and to have the opportunity to play in new media ourselves.

·      Kids like to think about all kinds of cool topics. Imagine having an audience that wants to explore the biggest, most amazing questions ever asked. Now imagine getting to write stories about all that!

·      Kids have the most amazing, innovative minds, and wonderful senses of humour. It’s a pleasure to flex our creative muscles, and not have to be too serious.

·      In making literature for kids, we often bring in grown-up thinkers too. It’s a pleasure to open the door for big people to ask big questions too!

·      The kids really are our future (sorry for the cliché, but it’s true). There’s something about producing literature for them that feels like creating opportunities for positive change, and empowering young thinkers to take on the world.

A huge thank you to all the little thinkers who read, watch, and play with the materials we create. It’s an honour to help our audience learn how to think, and not just what to think, and we’re so lucky to be able to try out new ideas and media. To the not-so-little thinkers who support all sorts of literacy in kids, you deserve a gold start too.

Cheers to kid lit, and to all the wonderful things it inspires!
